“The most interesting aspect of these natural-history-style objects is how they conjoin science and art, demonstrating the former's effort to understand the world by breaking down its minute features. That scientific impulse is not so different from the artist's impulse to get inside the nature of things.”
Felicia Feaster, 2003, Creative Loafing
Todd started experimenting with photograms in 1998 and first exhibited this series at Jackson Fine Art in 2000 or 2001. During this period of time Todd exhibited at the High museum, Todd Murphy: Art at the Edge, The University of Virginia museum- Natural histories and Hind sight Fore-site and in 2003 he exhibited Systems & Cycles in Natural History. Viewing this series alongside his other creations from this period a larger story unfolds.
Todd's legacy is thus one of a visionary artist who recognized and harnessed the interconnectedness of creativity across all realms of human endeavor."
